June 25-27, 2017 • The “Old Port” Portland, Maine
The 2017 Rapid Insight User Conference will be held in the beautiful city of Portland, Maine at the Holiday Inn By the Bay, located in the “Old Port”. The perfect location to visit all of Portland’s memorable attractions.
What’s so great about Portland you ask? Well, for starters, if you haven’t been to Maine in the summer, you haven’t lived. Yes, the winters are relentlessly cold, but for three months of the year, Maine has A LOT to offer. Portland is the largest city in the state, located on Casco Bay, and is about two hours from Boston.
In Portland you get the best of both worlds, great ocean views and a hip and opulent seaside city, consisting of excellent restaurants, shopping and museums. The Old Port is a wonderful combination of unforgettable historic brick roads, chic shops and palatable food options. In this coastal city, not only will you get a glorious view of Portland Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean, but you can eat lobster AND drink beer ON the water at Jay’s Oysters and the Portland Lobster Co. There’s nothing more genuine than enjoying fresh “lobstah” and “beeyah” in the state from which it came. If you’re up early enough, you can literally see the lobstermen hard at work. Additionally, Portland has its fair share of microbreweries, like Sebago, Allagash, and the Shipyard brewing companies. What’s not to love already?
Aside from fueling your fancy with culturally rich dining opportunities, there is a substantial amount of sightseeing in Portland. Take a walk on the Eastern Promenade, the harbor side recreation area with trails, or choose from a multitude of historic museums, including Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum and the Portland Observatory, which is a historic maritime signal tower and museum. There is also the Portland Museum of Art and the Museum of African Culture. The city is also home to a series of historical forts, including those from French, English and Native American conflicts as well as coastal defenses prior to and during the Civil War, WWI and WWII. If you’re looking for a seaside adventure, the picturesque Portland Headlight is a short 4.9 miles away with a delightful view while traveling over the Casco Bay Bridge.
