Happy World Statistics Day! – October 20th

In 2010, the United Nations proclaimed October 20th as the first World Statistics Day. For everyone in the world who formats dates as DD-MM-YYYY that day gave them the date of 20-10-2010.

At the U.N. Website, they explained it this way:

At its 41st Session in February 2010, the United Nations Statistical Commission proposed celebrating 20 October 2010 as World Statistics Day (Decision 41/109). Acknowledging that the production of reliable, timely statistics and indicators of countries’ progress is indispensable for informed policy decisions and monitoring implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, the General Assembly adopted on 3 June 2010Resolution A/64/267, which officially designated 20 October 2010 as the first ever World Statistics Day”

Here at Rapid Insight, we never pass up the opportunity to celebrate statistics (and eat candy!) so for today, the 5th annual World Statistics Day, we made an edible scatter plot…
